Imitation Memory Fabric is a flexible material used in various applications. Recent innovations in this fabric have focused on increasing its durability and expanding its potential uses; such as smart fabrics with improved breathability.
Imitation Memory Fabric differs from other synthetic fibers by being created from both natural and manmade ingredients, most frequently cotton, polyester and elastane. After being created from these raw materials, these fabrics can then be knitted or woven to form soft yet stretchy fabrics which can then be dyed or painted to produce different patterns and hues; following which the fibers may then be spun into yarn using techniques such as melt spinning and wet spinning for further use in yarn production.
Once yarns have been spun, they can be used to craft various clothing and other products from them. Imitation Memory Fabric can be found in clothing such as shirts, pants and other garments requiring stretchiness and comfort; bedding such as sheets, pillowcases and comforters often incorporate this fabric; it may even be incorporated into medical devices like wound dressings and compression sleeves.
First step in creating Imitation Memory Fabric is choosing appropriate fibers, which must provide the stretchiness and resilience required for this type of fabric. Once selected, these fibers can be blended together to form an economical fabric which can then be knitted or woven to form various textures and patterns.
In 2003, Hong Kong Polytechnic University's Shape Memory Textiles Centre under the leadership of Prof. Jinlian Hu first developed Imitation Memory Fabric with support from the Innovation and Technology Fund of Hong Kong, creating the inaugural project supported by this fund. Since then, research on Imitation Memory Fabric has continued and grown substantially.
Memory Fabric's primary advantage lies in its ability to return to its original form after being stretched or compressed, making it perfect for garments and products subject to frequent wear and tear. Furthermore, its breathable designs help prevent overheating while increasing airflow circulation.
Imitation Memory Fabric offers many advantages over regular fabric. Notably, its non-ironing and easy care characteristics make this fabric an excellent choice for making suits, windbreakers, jackets and women's fashions without ironing - simply rub with damp cloth to clean or maintain. Plus it boasts good wrinkle resistance with wide color range and smooth and delicate texture which make this perfect choice.
